Hearings began on 28 October 2021 in a case before Brussels' labour Court that will decide if delivery people working for Deliveroo are employees or self-employed. The outcome of the case could have a significant impact on thousands of people in Belgium who work for similar companies.

The case is supported by Belgian trade unions Fédération Générale du Travail de Belgique (FGTB) and Confédération des Syndicats chrétiens (CSC), who were represented in court (together with more or less 30 Deliveroo riders) by the Law offices Thetis and Progress Lawyers Network .

In parallel, Belgian political parties Vooruit and Parti Socialiste have submitted a bill currently in the Chamber of Representatives that would implement this change, entitling couriers for Deliveroo to the same labour rights that are enjoyed by other working Belgians.
